Mandatory signs

Mandatory signs are placed where they can be clearly seen. They may also be announced in advance using the same sign with a supplementary sign underneath showing how far ahead the requirement begins.

Road signs

You must know the type and meaning of each road sign, understand who it applies to and which part of the carriageway it applies to. You do not, of course, need to know the sign number.

    You must follow the direction shown by the arrow. The layout of the road determines the direction of the arrow. If the sign with a straight arrow is placed on an obstruction, you must pass the obstruction on the side indicated by the arrow.

Supplementary signs: the road sign does not apply to all drivers

Supplementary signs can also be used to limit who a road sign applies to. The signs below indicate that the road sign does not apply to all drivers.
