Prohibition signs
Prohibition signs are usually placed on the right-hand side of the road. If that is not possible, they may be positioned above the carriageway. They may also be repeated, for example in busy locations.
A prohibition sign may also be announced in advance. In that case, the same sign is shown with a supplementary sign underneath indicating how far ahead the restriction begins.
Road signs
You must know the type and meaning of each road sign, understand who it applies to and which part of the carriageway it applies to. You do not, of course, need to know the sign number.

From this sign up to and including the next junction, drivers of vehicles or combinations used to carry goods with a MAW of more than 3,5 tonnes may not overtake animals in harness or vehicles with more than two wheels on the left.
Prohibition sign C41
End of the prohibition imposed by road sign C39.
Prohibition sign C43
From this sign up to and including the next junction, you must not exceed the speed shown.
Prohibition sign C45
End of the speed limit imposed by road sign C43.
Prohibition sign C46
End of all local prohibitions applying to moving vehicles.
Prohibition sign C47
Toll station. You must not pass without stopping. The wording may be replaced by ‘Taks’.
Supplementary signs: the road sign does not apply to all drivers
Supplementary signs can also be used to limit who a road sign applies to. The signs below indicate that the road sign does not apply to all drivers.
